HOW IS ALUMINUM PART DIFFERENT FROM THE CONVENTIONAL WORKPIECE WHEN SHOT BLASTING

The shot blasting machine used for aluminum alloy parts (colored metal parts) and ferrous metal parts is basically the same in terms of structure, and the working principle is also consistent. However, since the aluminum alloy is usually small in size and light in weight, the particle size used for cleaning is small, and the generated aluminum powder is easily exploded. Therefore, the shot blasting machine used for the ferrous metal parts has the following differences.

(1) The carrying capacity of the workpiece carrying device does not need to be large. Because of the same volume, the weight of aluminum alloy parts is only about 1/3 of that of steel parts.

(2) The filter wind speed of the separator should be reduced. Due to the use of projectiles of φ0.2 to φ0.6 mm, the wind speed is too high to be sucked away. Usually, the wind speed is 2 to 3 m/s (when the black metal parts are cleaned, the wind speed of the separator is generally 4 to 5 m/ s). At the same time, the coordinate position of the apex of the separation plate changes accordingly, that is, the adjustable plate on the separation plate is changed.

(3) The ejection speed of the projectile has changed. Due to the low hardness of the aluminum alloy parts, to meet the specified surface roughness requirements, the projectile speed of the projectile can be determined through experiments under the conditions of the established projectile size and projectile material. But often the ejection speed is lower than that of the black metal shot blasting.

(4) The dust removal system shall be provided with an explosion-proof device. Aluminum alloy parts produce aluminum powder during shot blasting, and aluminum powder is conductive and flammable and explosive dust, so special attention should be paid. According to its physical properties, the aluminum powder is Grade IIIA, the ignition temperature is in the T group (>270 °C), the ignition temperature of the high temperature surface deposition dust (5 mm thick) is 320 °C, and the ignition temperature of the cloud dust is 590. °C, the lower explosion concentration is 37 ~ 50 g / m3. The aluminum powder explosion is a chain reaction, that is, the dust cloud generates the original small fireball under the fire source, and the heat of the dust is used to maintain the temperature of the fireball. When the surface temperature of the fireball reaches above the natural point of the dust, the chain reaction is established. The fireball continued to expand and form an explosion. Therefore, controlling the surface temperature of the equipment has become a prominent problem in preventing the explosion of aluminum powder. Therefore, the shot blasting equipment should not be placed in the vicinity of the heat treatment furnace, melting furnace and other devices with high temperature or open flame, but should be placed in the cool and ventilated place of the workshop. The dust collector is preferably placed outside the workshop or on the side of the workshop against the wall. For the sake of prevention, an explosion-proof automatic opening window should be provided on the top of the dust collector and on the dust removal pipe. For safety reasons, all motors, fans, and electronic control components should be explosion-proof.
