At present, most of the engine parts are sprayed and shot peening technology and processes, including: crankshaft (descaling and strengthening), connecting rod (reinforced), transmission gears and other shaft parts, ring gear, piston, Sun teeth, planet teeth, and leaf springs. A large number of automotive parts, whether cast/forging, die-casting, or mechanical cutting or welding, require different types of spray/beep equipment for surface treatment, such as descaling, deburring, sand cleaning and other surfaces. There is solid data to prove that through the spray / shot peening, the fatigue life of the leaf spring can be extended by about 600%, the fatigue life of the transmission gear can be extended to 1500%, and the fatigue life of the crankshaft is extended by at least 900%. It can effectively improve the fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance of components, and greatly increase the service life and safety. The shot blasting machine relies on the spray/blasting technology to make the parts more compact. Some parts that have to be used with expensive materials due to substandard specifications can now be replaced with low-priced materials, even by spray/blasting. Even better performance standards.


Shot blasting technology used in the crankshaft manufacturing process


As part of the manufacturing process, the heat-treated crankshaft requires shot blasting to remove the thermal scale from the surface. The crankshaft is placed on the rotating roller. When rolling, the surface of the crankshaft is fully exposed to the projectiles thrown by a plurality of throwing heads, and the multi-angle shot impacts thoroughly clean the outer surface of the crankshaft.


The size of the crankshaft determines the type of shot blasting machine. For larger engines, the crankshaft can reach φ762mm and length of 6096mm. The crankshaft is placed between a set of rollers mounted on the trolley. The customer chooses a fixed throwing head according to the actual situation of his workshop. It can either move the trolley under the throwing head, or fix the trolley and move the upper throwing head. Regardless of which method is chosen, the crankshaft placed between the rollers is constantly rotating, ensuring that all surfaces are adequately subjected to shot blasting.


As for the smaller crankshaft, such as φ 152 ~ 203mm, length 914mm, usually using the hook type shot blasting machine shot blasting. The crankshaft is hung on the hook and then transferred into the blasting chamber where a plurality of throwing heads are mounted by the rotation of the catenary to perform shot blasting. The hook rotates 360° in the blast chamber, and the surface of the crankshaft is cleaned under high-speed pill flow. Its cleaning speed can reach 250 pieces / h, and the cleaning effect is very good
